Why take on an allotment?
Growing your own fruit, vegetables and flowers brings so many benefits. Apart from the joy of seeing your produce grow, nothing beats the taste of fresh picked fruit and veg. Spending time tending an allotment is an excellent way to escape the pressures of a busy life for a few hours together with some fresh air, a bit of exercise and the opportunity to make some friends. Perhaps you are an eager gardener/grower already… an allotment will give you that extra space you need to fulfil your ambitions.
About Foxton Allotments
Foxton has had an allotment site for many years, but the current site was opened in 2007. It sits in the heart of the village next to the Village Hall and the Recreation Ground. The site is surrounded by a mature hedge but still commands fine views of the Chalk Hill and is within walking distance for most residents of the village. It is a safe and friendly space offering a good opportunity to get to know people from the village.
There are 28 numbered plots. Some are divided up giving plots of various sizes ranging from 50-150 m2 in area. The annual rent for the year (1 April – 31 March) is calculated by square meterage and 2025 rents range from the smallest at £21 to the largest at £58.
On letting a plot we issue a Tenancy Agreement which sets out the responsibilities of plotholders and landlord (the “Do’s and Don’t’s”). The site is “self managed”. This means we are individually and collectively responsible for maintenance and upkeep. There is water on site, and communal composting facilities. Children and dogs are allowed but we do ask that dogs are kept on leads and children are supervised for their own safety.
Interested?… Get In Touch!
We welcome new plot holders whether beginners or experienced hands. Plots do become available at intervals. As of April 2025 there are vacant plots. Otherwise, we keep a waiting list and offer plots on a first come first served basis. If you are interested or have any questions please get in touch via the contact form on this site or the contact number on the Allotment site main gate.
